   E-Twinning project

Building Resilience to Disaster and  Climate Change

Founder Ruzanna ADOYAN

Hello ,I am Amine Gökcen Erişen .I am an English teacher from Atatürkçü Düşünce Secondary School,Turkey.I want to share our experiences on e-twinning project

 What is e-twinning?

E-Twinning is a free online community for schools in Europe and some neighbouring countries, which allows you to find partners and collaborate on projects within a secure network and platform.

Through participating in eTwinning, your school will be able to:
  • enrich learning and motivation of pupils (aged between 3 and 19) and staff
  • access high quality professional development and ready-made resources
  • raise standards across the whole school community
  • gain recognition for your commitment through eTwinning awards and the International School Award.
With over 700,000 registered educators across Europe, why not join the European online community for schools today?

If you want to join or create a project ,firstly you have to be a     member of e-twinning portal.Let's learn how to use e -twinning.

How to use e-Twinning portal?

Upon registration and validation on the eTwinning portal, each registered member can log in to their eTwinning live, search project partners and create projects. eTwinning live is a personal space of each member registered on eTwinning and it is recommended that it is updated on a regular basis.

In order to create an eTwinning project, you should make a contact list consisted of your colleagues you wish to work on a project. Besides eTwinning live, there is also Twinspace consisting of ICT tools which support communication and collaboration on an eTwinning project.

eTwinning projects can be awarded with National and European Quality Labels.

eTwinning Code of Conduct can be found here.
Detailed information and guidelines on eTwinning portal can be found on the public part of eTwinning portal, as well as on the page Resources on the Foundation Tempus website.

Our project is building resilience to disaster and  climate change

And now,I am going to write about our project at

e-twinning portal .
This project aims at creating awareness about disasters, climate change, its influence on disasters and ways of avoiding them, struggling against them and providing help. By being aware of the possible disasters in a particular locality we get ready for consequences and learn to overcome them. Students need to learn ways of protecting themselves, and they have to be able to recognize the ‘ hints’ of coming disasters
We are working collaboratively with 17  teachers and 65 students from Armenia,Jordan,Czech
Republic,Turkey,Romain,Georgia, Ukraine and Tunisia.

Our project about :
SDGs,
Climate changes ,
disasters,pandemics,
Earth day,
How and what we do to overcome climate change.

Because of the covid-19 pandemic in the world,we are quarantined and we are not able to go out. Therefore we have to at home and we used web2 tools to conduct our project.

DISASTERS

 Natural disasters
A natural disaster is a natural process or phenomenon that may cause loss of life, injury or other health impacts, property damage, loss of livelihoods and services, social and economic disruption, or environmental damage.
Various phenomena like earthquakeslandslidesvolcanic eruptions, floods, hurricanes, tornadoes, blizzards, tsunamis, and cyclones are all natural disasters that kill thousands of people and destroy billions of dollars of habitat and property each year. However, the rapid growth of the world's population and its increased concentration often in hazardous environments has escalated both the frequency and severity of disasters. With the tropical climate and unstable landforms, coupled with deforestation, unplanned growth proliferation, non-engineered constructions make the disaster-prone areas more vulnerable. Developing countries suffer more or less chronically from natural disasters due to ineffective communication combined with insufficient budgetary allocation for disaster prevention and management.

Human-made disasters

We worked on padlet about disasters in our country.

Teachers and students gave information about their country disasters on google sites.

CLIMATE CHANGE

Climate change is a change in the pattern of weather, and related changes in oceans, land surfaces and ice sheets, occurring over time
scales of decades or longer.

Our students  prepared videos about climate changes
We talked on climate change on talkwall

PANDEMIC

We also gave informatıon about COVID-19 .We searched how to prevent pandemic ourselves and we worked about pandemic in google sites.

What are the symptoms of this coronavirus causes?

According to the WHO, the most common symptoms of Covid-19 are fever, tiredness and a dry cough. Some patients may also have a runny nose, sore throat, nasal congestion and aches and pains or diarrhoea. Some people report losing their sense of taste and/or smell. About 80% of people who get Covid-19 experience a mild case – about as serious as a regular cold – and recover without needing any special treatment.
About one in six people, the WHO says, become seriously ill. The elderly and people with underlying medical problems such as high blood pressure, heart problems or diabetes, or chronic respiratory conditions, are at a greater risk of serious illness from Covid-19.

COVID-19 AND CHILD PSYCHOLOGY

There are many precautions to be taken for the coronavirus (Covid19) outbreak, which leaves thewhole world in panic and fear. In addition to the precautions that should be taken by the states inorder not to spread the epidemic, to heal the sick and to protect those who are not, individuals haveobligations such as paying attention to hygiene and following the rules set for their own health andthat of others. For this reason, it is necessary to listen to the information of the approved officialauthorities such as the World Health Organization, the Ministry of Health, the Medical Associationand the warnings about the precautions to be taken. The risk of corona and similar epidemics is not only associated with physical health.

EARTH DAY-22

Earth Day was a unified response to an environment in crisis — oil spills, smog, rivers so polluted they literally caught fire.
On April 22, 1970, 20 million Americans — 10% of the U.S. population at the time — took to the streets, college campuses and hundreds of cities to protest environmental ignorance and demand a new way forward for our planet. The first Earth Day is credited with launching the modern environmental movement, and is now recognized as the planet’s largest civic event.

The first Earth Day in 1970 launched a wave of action, including the passage of landmark environmental laws in the United States. The Clean Air, Clean Water and Endangered Species Acts were created in response to the first Earth Day in 1970, as well as the creation of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Many countries soon adopted similar laws.Earth Day continues to hold major international significance: In 2016, the United Nations chose Earth Day as the day when the historic Paris Agreement on climate change was signed into force.

The world needs you — and your actions — for Earth Day 2020.There’s so much you can do to help protect and restore our planet, from joining a cleanup or climate strike, to taking part in the world’s largest citizen science initiative, to hosting an event in your own community!

How and what we do to overcome climate change?
